The family has also been aided in a cash assistance of Tk 1.5 lakh for the initial expenses.
Nargis Parvin, wife of deceased worker Jalal, and their only daughter Jannatul Bakia Mariam, 9, came to Multifabs Limited factory at Kashimpur Nayapara in Gazipur on Tuesday afternoon. Later, our Managing Director, Dr Mesba Faruqui handed over a cheque and took full responsibility of the child’s education and marriage. At that time, when Jalal’s wife wanted to earn a living by working, the managing director of the factory promised to provide her a job.
Dr Faruqui said, “I saw the picture of child Jannatul Bakia Maryam in the first light on the day it was published. Seeing the picture, I remembered my daughter and I cried a lot. That’s when I decided to do something for her. From his own responsibility, he initially gave Tk 1.5 lakh for their expenses. Besides, as long as Jannatul studies, as far as she can, we will bear all the expenses until her marriage.”
Jalal Uddin, 40, was working as a sewing supervisor of Islam Group in Jarun area. He was the son of Chan Mia of Banshhati village in Kendua upazila of Netrokona. The family lived in a rented house in Jarun area. Jalal was shot on November 8 while he was on his way home during a movement demanding a pay hike. Later, he was admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital. He died around 12:30 am on November 11 while undergoing treatment.
Jannatul Bakia is a class-II student of Gazipur City Ideal School in Jarun area. When asked about her father, she started crying. Then she said, “Dad used to go to work and say, ‘You have to study well, you have to become a doctor when you grow up.’ I want to be a doctor.”
Nargis Parveen said, “I was a housewife after passing BA. Now the multifabs factory wants to give me a job. For that, I am grateful to them. They took responsibility for my child. I can’t repay this debt. I am now struggling for my life with my daughter.”
AGM (HR and Admin) of our factory was present at the time. Abu Shehab, Manager Ripul Mia, Assistant Manager K. Ahmadul Kabir, Executive Md. Omar Hamdu, labor representative Saila Akhter, Arifa Akhter, Nazmul Huda, Monir Hossain, Sohag Hossain and others were also there.
